I need to know for sure weather this is legal/not frowned apon.

I need to run a ethernet cable (probably gunna buy some sheilded cable and run it in sealed pipe up an outside wall of a building for about 2-3 meters.

Is this legal?
Will it break anything/
Will it atttract lightening?
Will it fry components?

Can't imagine it being too bad for it tbh, as long as it's in a sealed pipe shouldn't be any trouble, just like running an aerial lead outside really?

That's what i guess anyway, wouldn't know for sure

I would have thought it'd be ok so long as you're careful about the junction where it leave/enters the buildings and seal everything up properly.

It's entirely legal.

I'd suggest purpose-built outside CAT5e rather than just normal house hold:

Nothing is illegal, whether it complies with building/wiring regs is another thing, but as far as im aware theres no major rules for data cable, just mains and low voltage.

It will be fine run in conduit, (sealed pipe) we do it all the time at work with no problems at all. shielded/cat6 will prob be more durable but its not worth buying the proper outside stuff if your running it in conduit.

A cable full of cannabis would be illegal.

I was under the impression that it uses the earth wire to send the signal down, earths are continuous throughout the house

I don't quite know how they work, but it doesnt work that well in that building at all.

Personally, I'd rather do things properly

Was just a suggestion you moody granny

They recommend for best performance that its on the same ring but they still work really well IMO. I agree running weatherproof cable would be the best way. It wouldnt be against regs to do it - same rules as telephone wire.

I just cant be arsed with a ladder
