I had an idea last night and was wondering how feasible it is:

I have white Infinity speakers behind my grilles on each door. What I was thinking of doing is putting a small LED in each corner behind the grille and wiring them to a live feed from the door – I'm guessing that there is some when the ignition is on.

The LED's would be hidden from view but would hopefully illuminate my speaker cone and give a small glow from the grille as well.

Is this possible? Any help on how to do it would be great.

Im guessing that I need 4 3mm LED's from Maplins or somewhere, some resistors, but after this I come undone. How do I tap into a live wire and how do I connect the LED's/resistors in parallel of series and earthing – not got much knowledge on the subject.

Thanks for any help

No, wait! it was my idea first!

darn it!

Well so long as you report back and tell me how to do it!

So how do you do this then? How do you wire up the LEDs? earth them and attach them to the lastic door pocket?

What about Central locking / electric window or mirror power cable in the door? Would that work?

I've got the Max Power Haynes manual but doesn't it just say something like "and we wired up some lights here" - I need detailed instructions on how to wire up LED's and resistors and into what wires etc.

I'm not getting very far!!

I got blue bulbs in my door cards to light up the speakers. Not LEDs bought blue wedge bulbs and put them in their, wired them into a switch so I can switch them on as and when I want to! Dead easy and look good. p4ult is right, max power covered this in their Haynes Man. They do look good at night!

The problem with series is if one bulb goes, the rest go out as the circuit is broken! Paralell is better for you really. I ran two wires into each door, + and -. Connected them direct to permenant supply so could have them on with the engine off. I not got front fogs so got a switch for that and wired them in their. Just stick the switch in line on the + side really easy. The only pain is wires in and out of doors, but I just siliconed up around thw wire seal it and wrapped it up inside the rubber gromit thing. Any other q's, want get camera so can take some pics. They glow really well, bulbs from demon tweeks, blue, green or purple.

What bulbs were they and how much?

Can you order them online or do you have to phone up? I fancy some blue ones tomatch my stereo.

If I don't want a switch (don't mind them on all the time when ignition is on) then is it ok to take the +ive feed from the c/l or something like that?

Also, where does the -ive wire go to?

noooo! u want LED's. ure not gunna have 2 worry about them blowing, and nocking about. a bulb might smash. what u want i LED's, and a 470 ohm resistor for each LED you use. you then wire each one up in parallel.
you dont wanna take a live feed from the amp switch on the head unit because this only uses milli amps, and wouldnt really be enough to run a ffew LED's. however, you could use this to switch on a relay, so that the LED's only come on when the Head unit is on. im gunna try doing it this wekend, but i'll do a wiring diagram for you now using the +ve on the HU to switch a relay, just gimmie 2 seconds

Cheers DJ. I think I will go for LED's. Is it ok to like seal all connections up (like resistors etc) with electric tape to protect them and stuff? I don't want live wires and stuff around my speakers or door pockets.

Are they Kosei Swordz on your car?

my mate tried putting wires through those rubber door hose thingys, and couldnt do it. so in the end, he pulled the one end off, and drilled through a ffew of the holes, leaving enough space to push some wires through. and because its totaly sealed up when its screwed onto the car, there aint no chance of water getting in. the wiring diagram is nrly done, just uploading it to my wesite now

Thats great. Whats the thing underneath the switch symbol? is that just the switch?

How do I connect the wire to the amp out on my stereo? do I need a special plug/connector?

Just re-wired them in this afternoon, workin fine, I used bulbs as thats what I had lyin around, not chance of smashing them or anything as you gota fix them to the door pannels. Will see what they look like later
