I've noticed that there is quite a lot of oil residue in the header tank
Is there anyway I could check which one it is without taking the engine apart?
20XE engine, the head is 1987 if that's any help to you?

I think if its the head gasket you could be loosing alot of water
To check how bad it is, look at the engine with the bonnet open and you see the pipe on the right that goes from the camcover to the dipstick? slide it off the camcover end and check the pipe for mayo.

Water in the Oil = head gasket
Oil in the water = head porous
