Under heavy braking atm, my car squirms all over the place (wheels are not locked), but through the steering wheel you can feel it trying to wriggle all over the road... why is this?

it could be the rear brakes are too powerfull
and the back end is trying to overtake the front
mine does it and my bias valve needs sorting
to test find a big open space get to bout 30mph turn and brake if it swaps ends then it needs adjusting

yup mine is 60mm and maybee and some 
so i need to modyfy the adjuster a bit
but since i fitted ate 2ltr front brakes its evened out a bit

the bias valve only needs altering on 1.4 and 1.6 corsas, and anything over 35mm - 40mm drop needs new parts making for the valve to regain it original position. 1.2 corsas have pressure dependant valves which dont need touching whatsoever.
just a few of what it could be, warped discs, wrong offset wheels, fooked suspension, rear brakes might be knackd.

mine doesnt squirm too much i guess my valve is out a teenie bit, nothing scary tho, just hold that wheels tight lol

45 offset wheels all round defo...
my car is lowered 40mm on a full suspension kit...
I think Adam-D might be on the ball? although I only have rear drums, I do find I can get the back out if I put my foot on the brakes very hard and sharply (drums locking?) - although this I'm talking about is where I'm going from say 70 mph to 30 mph and am not locking but applying heavy pressure - so it may still be the case?
Otherwise as red has said tramlining could also be causing it, but its a bit too severe imo.

Wheel width is a factor.
Sounds like your bias needs looking at though.

boo  I liked getting the arse out without using the hand brake... but I must admit It is pretty scary atm speeding along dual carriageways then having to brake at the last minute at a roundabout and having the car trying to wander all over the road as I brake.

try gettin it to a local garage with brake rollers you might have a front brake that is pullin on better than the other side which would make it squirm under heavy brakeing

Lol. Maybe it's just me, but I like to be able to feel when I'm braking heavily... mine shakes when I get close to locking up  who needs ABS?

As i know that your a good driver, i know that you know how not to lock up. With my Corsa i can have a little fun and lock the rear wheel up but in an emergency stop this won't happen as i know how to not make this happen.
So just factor in other things. Like tramlining or just shite on the road. Have a play at ather areas to see if the result is the same.
If it is then i'd look at your shoes for starters. Are they too tight and causing them to come on too early? Mine did that when i hadn't set things up right. If all is well, then check your bias.
