Urgent help needed from all 1.6 XE owners!!

I am about to stick the XEL into my nova, but when I looked at my mates XEL, he had a black module thing, bolted to the right hand side of the head/rocker cover.
It has a plug attached with 2 wires (I think!)

It is a DELCO unit?

WHAT IS IT?? I would look in my Haynes, but I am at work now!

A picture would be good too!

possibly the ECU. AC Delco is a brand of GM that supply all the GM parts to Vauxhall. Is the XEL unit out of the Astra mk4?

Yeah, its the Astra engine.
Its not he ECU mate, its attached to the head, bout the size of a credit card!

my only other guess is an engine immobiliser, or some kind of sensor. Try www.migweb.co.uk, they are the daddies when it comes to technical stuff on all things vauxhall

im 99% sure the astra engine is different to the corsa one, think it has a different inlet manifold so you cant put one of those performance ones on

I think it will be the fuel tank vent valve it has two wires pluged into it and two vacuum pipes, this is a delco remy unit

like a mantzel powerbox or velos torque tube.

hes on about Mantzel powerbox etc, the Astra engine has a longer inlet manifold it stretches back further in engine bay than Corsa X16XE, I think its slightly less powerful and a lower compression

'L' on X16XEL stands for low output!

I have a Mantzel Power Box fitted!
The kit comes with a modded manifold also to replace the shorter XEL item.
