Was it ready to live in or did it require a lot of DIY?
Just curious really - we got ours and it was a shit hole the whole thing has been re-decorated new carpets in every room,new joists, floor, bathroom etc. Wasnt sure on the idea at first but think its been fun along the way! Plus got to choose everything the way we wanted.
Really starting to like DIY now however the other halfs mother isnt a fan of it - she is one of these people that thinks if she pays somelse else stupid amounts of money is the only way to do it right

Reposession, had to do everything almost. Took 9 months to move in!!
Done it all myself too

mine had to have new kitchen, bathroom, all carpets etc, new windows and doors, internal doors, central heating, every wall/skirting board,door frames/ceiling needed painting, and changed all the light swithes, plug sockets and light fittings.

i had to do everything. i knew that at the time though which is why i only paid 65k. its been valued at 125k but with the current economy i reckon that is more like 115k now.
i did a full rewire, new boiler and central heating, new doors and windows, new internal doors and door casings, new bathroom, new kitchen, fitted downstairs toilet, new carpets in bedrooms. basically nothing is the way it was when i bought it. cost about 18k to do it up.

every room needs doing in mine, plus some external, plus both garden, been moved in 18 months... and started the kitchen 
its more than liveable, just want it looking reet nice

We redecorated in every room, replacing all the flooring but kept the ktchen and bathroom. The house is only 5yrs old, so they were in very good condition.
We turned it all round in 6 days.

mine need lots of work! been in 20 months and just doing things slow! Kitchen/living room hall way, stairs, landing all done

gardens 
2 bedrooms decorating proper, currently just quick splash of paint to make it look nicer!
its a long process unless you loaded, but can see light at end of tunnel now

Had to take every room back down to bare brick......bought it in March 05 - just finishin the kitchen now then all done.
I basically did our bedroom and bathroom then moved in. Worked from top to bottom whilst living there.
Real nightmare, and depressing at times but it's beautiful now.
As mentioned before - every single thing in this house was chosen by me and the missus, even down to the style of skirting board, and what door hinges we want. Basically everything 100% my choice!

i brought a new build so everything was meant to be perfect.....needless to say, its wasnt, my door handles are the dodgiest thing ever, they break trapping people in rooms!

I will be looking into buying a newbuild, but we have very little DIY experience between us and live quite far from family help, also will need to be both working full time so wont have time to spend doing it up.
I would gladly buy a second property and renovate for renting/selling though, something to take time over

Mine was only three years old, so was more 'tired' than in need of any significant work. Saw past the dirt (had been rented out -- make-up on carpets etc) and decorated it all myself.
Have to say I think I probably took more time and care over it than a decorator would have, plus it's really satisfying to know you did it

mine stunk of years of fag smoke, there was tar/smoke residue on every surface.
The previous owner had had artex on every ceiling wall and the back of the bedroom doors; the rooms all had yellow ceilings and yellow walls and yes....yellow doors.
We then did this to it............
