How good is the speed and coverage for mobile broadband, where you get the USB modem that goes into your laptop?

Would probably go for Vodafone as Im a fanboy (well, we have mobile contracts with them already), but if anyother network is especially good I'd get one of theirs.

Do a search on google and youll see Vodaofne consistently comes up top for everything, the only slight benefit anyone else has is that 3 have a slightly better 3G netweork than us so their coverage may be better but speeds, reliability ect are all superior on Voda, as proven by many independant tests (altho independant whilst commissioned by us )

Considered a netbook too? May work out slightly cheaper if you need new IT equipment as well

If its for a city then the coverage between networks will be negligible, its generally only in the sticks where 3 have it covered and we havent gotten round to it, otherwise Voda is generally the best bet

Especially with these new built in laptop deals

Let me guess Brett, you were going to recommend the 3 network.

Almost as predictable as the Vodafone jockeys

I'm on 3 - all is good

Speeds could be a little better if I want to download something but for every-day browsing its plenty fast enough

Only one website I have found that doesn't work on it though - Betfair. It refuses to download the login bar at the top of the page and 3's 'engineers' are useless as you might expect.

It wouldn't surprise me if you didn't even have a 3 modem and were recommending it to annoy Voda Man and his sidekick Captain Fone

TBH I haven't actually used my 3 thing in a long time, as I use my neighbours BB But it is a good bit of kit. I only recommend it because they do PAYG and you're not tied to a contract. Simple as that. I do like disagreements tho.
