In Scotland they have to provide not only fire alarms but extinguishers and fire blankets. Don't know if that's the same down south.

Not sure if it's the law, but in my missus parents house, they have fire alarms that are connected to the mains electric. . .

When we moved into our house we had no smoke alarms so we phoned the estate agents and the landlord sent someone to fit them, so perhaps it is?

Also, round here you can get them for free from the fire service.

What, in all rented residential homes? Surely not.....

Most people are too stupid to use them anyway

would probably be easier to call your local Fire Brigade and say that you're concerned about the fire safety.
They should just come out, do a quick inspection and fit a couple of smoke/heat/CO alarms for you.

Depending on the size of the house and what is deemed to be required, yip.

If it's an HMO then it is's a necessity.

My rented place came with a smoke alarm in the 2 bedrooms, the stairs, dining room, living room. Heat alarm in the kitchen. No CO2 sensors though

I think it'd be in the landlords interest to supply smoke alarms. So i would deffinatly get onto them!

Think the electric powered ones are standard now in new builds as it's convenient! but in old builds people would rather battery ones as it saves time etc.
