I know the proper way to do is have chain and tensioners replaced but I will be doing the oil when I can be bothered, and I was wondering if there is any grade of oil that will help reduce the tapping?

I think he means the chain is tapping, making it sound like a diesel Adam, not the lifters etc.

Yes the chain is tapping, nothing wrong with the engine just the noise is annoying at times, not doing anything major because I want it sold after christmas.

just top the oil up a bit and the noise will go away for a little while (long enough for any test drives!)
