Hi all,

Think im gonna be needing new tyres soon and at the moment i have:-

195/45/16R

BUT:

Early next year im hoping for an engine conversion, should i get a different tyre rating and my cars lowered (of course) and when doing sharp cornering it scrubs ever so slight on the front wheel, and slight occasional anyway on back. But if i had tyre:

195/40/16*

Would that potentially solve scrubbing without having to raise the car slight?

Cheers all

It should solve the scrubbing, depending how bad it is, or you could go with 185/40/16 which will have a slight stretch but nothing much.

wow 185/40

Might as well just buy some spray on rubber.

The sidewall height is a percentage of the width. So a 185/40 means 40% of 185mm which is tiny. Or 74mm. Be prepared for bent and buckled rims if you run over as much as a peanut. It'll also probably cause the car to bounce and lose grip in the corners, even more so if you have uprated suspension.

Cars like Ferrari's and Aston's can run 40 profile because they usually have wide tyres, maybe 275's. So 40% of 275mm is 110mm sidewalls.
