Can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet (or maybe it has and I can't find anything?).
You install games to the HDD so it doesn't need to use the DVD drive as much -- pretty cool, but considering 120gb is the biggest HDD you can get, it's gunna fill up pretty quickly.
I hope Sony does the same with the PS3 as you can get over 500gb drives for the same price as the Xbox 120gb HDD!
Apparently it makes the 360 much more quiet (thank-fuck for that -- the fighter jet in my AV rack is one of the reasons I sold mine).
You can already download this update from Torrents and stuff, but it disables LIVE until it's officially released.
It appears as Microsoft are copying the Nintendo with the Wii...

hdd thing is cool, the rest doesnt bother me in the slightest i liked the blades dont care about mii ripoffs just want it to be able to play games ect lol.

Surely the disc is going to have to still be in the tray though to stop piracy, i.e copying other peoples games???

the ps3 already installs the games on to its hard drive its meant to make it run faster as it doesnt have to read it off the disc but the instalation time of devil may cry 4 was about an hour which took the piss
they did it for metal gear 4 as well but tht was only installed wen it was needed, cutting down the times

Got this yesterday, thought it looked quite shite in screenshots and such but its actually really good, also like how when you press the xbox button in comes up as a box in the middle instead of the side of the screen, havent tried the avatars yet as you cant do it until the 19th. one annoying thing is that any themes you have brought become worthless as the background doesnt change when you flick through the menu only if you go into something and half the picture is cut off on the main menu anyway.

Also havent noticed it get quieter, cant see how it could unless they turn the fan speed down but it needs to be high to prevent the rrod.

You still need the disc in the drive to boot up the game.
Think they're trying to make it more appealing to the family market like the wii.
The HDD thing is cool, as my COD4 disc has seen better days after 8 days of online play alone on that one game int he last 11 months!
