If you are on O2 Broadband then I URGE you to change your DNS server settings to use the OpenDNS servers!
I just changed mine and my net is faster and xbox has no lag

DNS servers shouldn't make any difference to your xbox lag, when you're playing a game it knows who it's talking to, it doesn't have to go to dns to find out surely.

I've noticed if I set my Windows DNS settings to the O2 servers instead of automatically it resolves host names slightly quicker.
I wonder if the problem is down to the box they send their customers (should I be getting another router maybe?).
Also, haven't people on here said OpenDNS is slower?

I have mine set to Open DNS but when you restart the box it pulls back the O2 DNS servers as a back up anyway.

If you've never had issues then you might not want to mess about with the settings as you telnet to the router. Real easy guide and explanation in this thread.

I only switched as few months ago O2 had DNS issues on a new batch of IP's they leased out. Websites not loading or refusing entry to previously blacklisted IP's now aquired by O2. I had one of them and it was a nightmare for 3 weeks. Although the Open DNS change didn't really help it is supposed to be quicker/more reliable.

You could just set them in windows and i'm assuming the xbox without going near the router.

Basically, DNS servers are directions/gateways towards teh big wide web. when you go online your usually using your ISPs DNS servers (computers) to browse the web.
Some servers are faster than others, OpenDNS will accept anyone who wishes to use their servers.
Ive never heard of them, but can only assume their fast.
