what does it mean when you turn on the ignition and the ecu light flashes?
when it runs the ecu clicks and the engine cuts out then starts back up again after cranking for ages.
but then the ecu light flashes when cranking and it doesnt start

Is the ecu the one in the engine bay , is a known problem of getting to hot and cooking ecu on the corsa C, also check relays and immobilizer and earths and ecu connectors.

I thought is was a C, the B ecu is usually reliable as it does not get hot , I think the problem is elsewhere and not the ecu but still worth trying what was suggested.

Not hot then might be an idea for members to ensure the ecu does not get wet I will check mine and make water tight , you might be lucky if you use a hairdryer might save it ? .

Mine did that.
You need to make sure that the loom is bound up tight with insulation tape, makes sure that water doesn't travel down the insidfe of the loom. Happened to mine and goosed an ECU .
