Firstly sorry for the impending essay,
i have a 93 L gsi, 107k but has had this problem for ages but im at the end of my teather(sp?) with this so i am after some advice
it has a very weird problem, if i drive it very very carefully the car is ok, its a bit lumpy and i would say its over fuelling, this is what the guys at the MOT place said.
If i even push the throttle it will misfire quite violently (but just like a gun shot) but then if i hold the revs around 4k and then lightly hold the revs i get a misfire, then the EML light comes on moaning about the hall sensor (which if i remember rightly is the cam sensor) so i have replaced that, also changed the cam belt n checked the timing, compression test, the plugs, leads and DIS have been replaced, also the lambda sensor has been done and its still there
anyone else had this issue
cheers in advance!

Check all engine earths. I had a problem that sounds identical and it turned out to be the earth to the alternator bracket. Tried cam sensor, injectors, fuel pump n relay, coil pack ht's n plugs and a lambda!
Mine was comin up as injector circuit fault mainly but was flicking up cam sensor aswell. Got to be worth a try
