My mates speedo isnt working, I took the clock off and the tok the cable off and checked it wasnt working and i found out that its the part that goes into the top of the gear box. Its seems to be that its too short to reach the gear in the gear box. So i rang a locak vaux dealer and they said that they were all the same size, and the one i have doesnt seem to be wore away or broken.
So i got a couple of steel washers and filed them down and fitted it, i maybe didnt put enough of them in but it worked for a min and then it stopped so ive ordered a new part from the dealer, only 13 quid, but wil this fix my problem?
could it be that there's somethin worng with the gear in the gearbox?

It wont be the gearbox mate unless he's lost a gear. The plastic part that goes into the gearbox is either faulty or the cable or the clocks.
Are you sure there isn't a break in the cable somewhere?
Have you tried another set of clocks to see?

no cable is defo not broke. i twisted it from both ends and it was moving, also pulled it to make sure that it wasnt broke, put a square screwdriver into the back of the clock and turned it and the milage went up and straight down again so its work so.
He hasnt lost any gears as i was driving it there the other day and all gears are moving smoothly..
so it has to be the part that goes into the top of the gear box....

I'd assume it was the speedo sender, The plastic part that bolts to the gearbox.
