Mums laptop wont go on the internet anymore.

It was working fine then magically stopped one day, nothing has changed as far I'm aware. It could see the router and reckons it was connected to but it said it was aquiring network address?

I reinstalled the wireless connection and it came up as connected and all looked fine but it still wont go on the internet. Says cant connect to server when you open up IE no matter what site I try to go on?

Any ideas?

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Windows Firewall.

Zone Alarm if installed or any other program will be in you programs list or can be seen in add/remove programs. Besides you should have an icon in the bottom right tray for it.

Turn it off and see if makes a difference. I have my Windows one off. The router will have a firewall but I'd back it up with a software one like Zone Alarm, Comodo etc.. Or see if you can add an exception (tab) for the router. It should find it automatically.

You can always switch it on it doesn't work.

Switch it off and restart the laptop. Next thing I'd try is a system restore or reinstall the drivers for the network card/onboard LAN.

Do you have any WEP KEY or WPA Key on the network? Could turn it off and possibly reset the router. Set it up again.

More than likely something on the laptop. Just a boring process of elimination.

PS: Might be worth an Virus and Spyware scan as well.

orange.

how do I change the channel on the router? and if I do will that mean it messes the other 2 laptops up that are connected to it?

I tried restarting after turning the firewall off but still no difference. It still says its connected to the network and the signal strength is very good!

I noticed there is a WEP Key written on the router but I wouldn't know how to go about changing or resetting it.

Is installing the wireless card in the laptop easy?
