I'm going to pick up the new N97 on Friday but also want to put a screen protector on it as my job is a bit messy. Do they function OK still with the protectors on? Anyone got any advice or feedback?

Zagg is all you need. I use this on my Iphone.
Comes with a LIFETIME warranty if your cover gets scratched... yes your cover!
not sure if they do N97 yet though.

Yes they work fine. I've always used the Exim protectors. SPUC is the better one of the two. From ebay and HK. This seller is good
Ebay
A little pricey £5-£6 but they do last and are a perfect fit.

i had a sony ericsson k850i phone and 3 buttons of that were touch screen and it still worked fine for me, i know its not the same as a full touch screen phone but it was still ok. For the price of a screen protector its worth trying it

Is this the one that requires you to use water to fix it on?

I have had touch screen phones for years and rarely bother with these. I used to use them on my p800 but touchscreens have come a long way since then and dont have tht soft surface like they used to. Mind you they are still a good idea if you like your ohone to stay like new

I've had 2 iPhones and never bothered with screen protectors on either, I'm a mechanic and always use my phone with dirty hands and had no problems with either.

If the N97 has the same screen as the 5800 (looks the same to me in videos etc and has the same resolution) then it has tactile response which means that it isn't hard like an iPhone, when you touch it it actually depresses.
Wish I had known about the invisible shield thing before, I have a couple of scratches on it now from when I've been using my nail to scroll down web pages
