Afternoon
I'm after a little advice, im looking for a conservatory for my new build properly, after reading reviews after reviews on the big names im totally lost on who to go for.
I had anglian over last night for a quote of a conservatory of 3*5.18 metres the quote back was just shy of £19k now i declined this at straight away he reduced it by £5k
I then declined it again thinking £14k for a conservatory of that size is kinda expensive.
Had anyone advise if this price about right? should i say clear of a company who changes its mind so quickly in regards to pricing, who to say they are still overcharging at $14k
Any advise would be muchly appreciated

you could buy separately and employ a builder to build it. Would be cheaper than the 14K.

Theres a lot of unemployed builders so labour should be fairly cheap

Maybe you can locate a NHBC builder to do it. I dont know about the rules for NHBC.
I think anglican do good work so you maybe able to negotiate more on that. Its a buyers market for everything so just try

im awaiting Anglia local area manger to callregarding the price, but ive lost a little trust in them to be honest  why suddenly drop from 19k to 14k why couldnt they just say its 14k at the start.

Thats sales mate. They have to try. 1 out of 10 will prob agree to initial quote.
Barter to 10k and then ask to see some reference work in your area see what the quality is like.
It would still be cheaper to buy and then get builder to install. Depending on design should only be around 5-6k

my 1st impress was that is should be around 8-9k but i guess i was in kookoo lnad with that figure, i did tell him yesterday i wasnt prepared to pay more that 10k for it.. final  lol lets see what happens

10k is still a lot for the materials!
Have a look at Wickes, and other places.... you dont HAVE to go with this Anglian folk

£19k for a bit UPVC and glass

just get a local builder to lay the founds, and the base.
Then find a joiner to fit the damn thing....

Right, First of all, Stay away from the larger companys (Safestyle, Everest, Anglican etc) as the materials they use are pretty brittle. I know this as the company i work for make the specialised bespoke frames for them.
Secondly, Find a local one man band firm. These tend to take more pride in their work and can give you a better deal. Make sure they are FENSA registered. Also if they are registered by the GGF (Glass and glazing federation) then you know that there going to do a decent job.
The best profiles we find are VEKA and REHAU. These arent as brittle and are a pretty strong frame anyway even without the steel reinforcing in them. So try to find a company that uses these.
These days the wooden ones are usually slightly more expensive as the price of the plastic materials are so cheap.
Heres a local company to me that uses a VEKA profile.

Parents got a CR Smith one a few years back for about 6-7k.
If the salesman said 19k to me then straight away dropped to 14k I think i'd slap him for trying to rip me off.
When these folk come round, just say to them: 'ok I know how it works, im not interested in getting a daft price then you keep coming back to me, you give me your best price and I'll decide in a week who's getting the work'!!

just had one bulit
5m by 4m with gable front
over 3 cubic meters of concrete for base
Removed soil pipe and relocated
wiring
plastering
relocation of boiler flue
brick lights
cost 8.5k
We had one guy who started at 19k and dropped to 13k within 10 minutes
he was asked toleave and not come back
If you go with big companies who have over heads and wanker sales guys then you pay for all that
Local guys with good refernces will always do a good job as they cant afford not too
and you will get better after service
will try and get a pic for you
