have you got the wireless card driver installed?
to find out right click "My Computer" then go to properties. from there choose the hardware tab at the top of the window and then choose device manager.
in there is there anything with a yellow exclamation mark next to it? anything with an exclamation mark means its not got the driver installed.

You need the driver as mentioned. If you can't get wired internet either, use a different pc and download the drivers onto a USB stick or something similar, then right click the yellow exclamation mark on the WiFi driver and choose to install the driver from a specific location.

As above and the drivers are normally on the laptop manufactures website under your specific model.

Also, make sure your wireless is turned on (usually a switch or one of the Fn keys on the keyboard). Obvious I know but thought I'd mention it.

sam, it may seem like an obvious thing, but you wouldn't believe how many times people have moaned about the wireless not working and then the switch is off. tbh i don't even know why they have the switches on them

Yeah I had to "fix" a laptop with a supposed duff wireless connection, it was just the Wireless function key wasn't on!
