The one with the vacuum pipes. What does it do? is it essential?

No not the map sensor, its bolted the front of the suspension turret.
Plunger?

ive removed this, still runs fine when idling

sure its not the plunger for the alarm system which sets the alarm off when the bonnet is opened?
