Right when it charges it only goes to about 12% then suddenly says 100% fully charged, thats only after about 15mins charging it should be over a hour.
After the 12% charge it works for about 2mins and turns off, sometimes it doesn't even make the windows screen and dies even after a charge, its pretty random how long it will last for.
Have the chargers got control of how long to charge or does the actual laptop internals?
Does it sound like a chuffed battery or charger?
Its only about a year old.

ah, mine's a Dell and its doing the same after a year. Since learned that keeping the battery in whilst using it on the mains kills it, as does excessive heat. Way forward is to take it out if you're hooked up to the mains and it'll last a hell of a lot longer. Oh and yeh, battery is fooked.

No, if the cells are knackered, it will register a 12% charge and can jump to 100%. Had this on a few laptops myself, they either just drain quick, or exhibit funky charging patterns like yours.

mmm, i've been charging it, running it down, recharging it, running it down for a while and it appaears this time, the expected run out time has gone up 10mins, even though it doesn't last that long, maybe I will keep doing this.

Think the average battery only allows for 500 charges or so, so pretty much a year's worth depending on usage.

If it was a Dell it would be telling him there was no battery installed

Definitely a fucked battery.. Depending on the complexity of the cells some can be 'jump started'.

NiCd / NiMi Batteries fail when the chemicals inside crystalise because they are discharged to deeply you can melt the crystals but putting a large reversed current through the batteries repeatedly.

Or just buy a new one on ebay for a few quid

Yes I got it to 15% when it suddently cuts to fully charged, there is hope yet, I put it in the freezer for 2 hours so it was cold as li-ion batteries hold charge longer at 0 degrees C than higher temps.

Welders don't work with li-ion.

Li-ion batteries also don't like the cold so i'm suprised it worked at all.

Ebay for a battery.

Regarding dells, that's a possible error message but far from the norm.

They do like the cold, just not frozen.
I can't get a welder in sadly anyway as there is no way to connect wires to the battery, its a strange design.
