A few weeks back my engine management light came on when the car idled, and then the revs would drop to about 500rpm and it would sound like it was about to stall, although it never did.
I got the car on the ramps at work, and found that the exhaust manifold had a crack in it, so £140 later that was changed and the loud blow from the front of the car went, I thought this would have also cured the light from coming on, but it has not cured it.
Anyone got any ideas whats happening with my engine!?
It runs fine, but just when it idles it seems to run really rough, and sounds like its switching from 3 to 2 cylinders...
Ive checked the plugs and they all seem okay, have also tried it with another set just in case, but nothing changed.

had a similar problem with mine but mine kept cutting out. it was the mass air flow meter and the idle control valve that was causing the problem. had them replaced, and is fine now, but costly though!

my light comes on after a long journey and it annoys me. there is no reason for this other than a possibilty of lose wires. take your car to vauxhall and get it on tech 2 or something or use the old paperclip method you could also check your pipes for small splits as i had one in the piece between the air flow meter and inlet manifold which caused my car to idle uneven...i just taped it up temporarily and stil havnt got round to replacing it

Kerry, I bet your faults are for the EGR.
Hmmmmm, actually, if you have an air flow meter, no egr......
Cris,
Why didn't you just weld the crack?
Reset the ecu and clear the fault, see what comes back. Then go from what the code says......
Lambda sensor is not used at idle i dont think.
Could be idv, they are always playing up.
But the easy way to find the problem and end the guessing is to read the codes! Only takes 2 mins to do it!
