How can i find out if my cars engine is a x16xe or c16xe?

look it the inlet manifold..if its all metal its an X16XE, if plastic its a C16XE

the gsi c16xe (vauxhall engine) came with more bhp with the plastic inlet manifold
the corsa sport x16xe engine is obv just has less bhp but some have half the milage
answer to your question though...
on the side of the engine block were the gear box meets the engine block at front of the engine bay near your dip stick tube...clean this off with wire wool? wire brush? etc give it a good clean it will read either x16xe are c16xe should be stamped on the block pic below for an idea..
this is a "c20xe" engine below but clean were its is circled red on your 1.6 16v block is and it will show you what it is..

do be aware that the bhp between the c16xe and the x16xe is nothing noticeable and the x16xe is easyer to tune via a powerbox.
a powerbox will go on a c16xe but there is alot more work invovled in doing so.
so dont feel too bad if it is the x16xe
