Hopefully someone can shed some light on the issues I'm having with my corsa.

My 160 is corsa utility is an import from South Africa. It is a pickup truck and is therefore classed as a commercial vehicle.

The engine is a C16SE and is similar if not identical to the Nova GSi 8 valve.

The problem I am having is that the Engine Managment Light (EML) has come on and is not allowing the car to start.

The AA man said it was most likely an issue with the immobiliser. I got it towed to my local garage. He looked at it and came to the same conclusion.

He said that his diagnostic equipment was unable to read the vehicle and the best thing would be to take it to a vauxhall dealership.

I towed it myself to Evans Halshaw in Hemel. They said they tried to look at it with a tech 2 and were unable to get into the engine. For this pleasure they charged me £70 odd.

They said that i would need to find a Tech 1. They said they were unable to help. I called Vauxhall in Luton and they said they would find another dealer with a Tech 1.

They said to try Evans Halshaw St Albans. I towed the car there myself and then left it with them to diagnose. They called back to say that they were unable to get into the engine as they needed a code.

I looked for the code with all my documentation and was unable to find a code. I Informed the dealership of this and they said that they'd have to get it from Vauxhall themselves and that there would be a charge for this. I paid the £23.50 and then was told that Vauxhall will not give me any information as my vehicle does not appear on their database and that they suspect my vehicle of not being a Vauxhall/GM vehicle. They said that GM/Vauxhall VIN's begin with W00, whereas mine begins with ADMRE.

I looked in to the VIN and every continent and manufacturer has a different one. GM in SOuth Africa is ADMRE. So there is no issue with mine.
Vauxhall Luton said that they were unable to contact GM South Africa on my behalf and that I'd have to do it myself.

I was to I'd that I had to contact South Africa and get the code from them. I tried calling and had no luck. I sent them an email and eventually got a reply and then a call. I explained the situation and they said that normally they were unable to give out the Security codes, but my case was unique and they gave me the code.

I passed this code onto EH St Alabans and they said that they'd get back to me.

I went on a Sat to see what was going on and to speak to the tech who had been working on my car.
He said that: my issue was unique in that the VIN was different. I explained that and he said that usually there are certain places where the VIN is stamped and he didnt
find these in those places on my car. I said that the was assembled by the then Delta Motor Corporation which is now General Motors South Africa (GMSA). Obviously standards are different around the world. He also said that my shape of vehilce was odd because it appears that mine has been modified to be a pickup. I explained that this model was not available in UK or Europe. It was sold in Australia, N America, S America and Africa. He said that when trying to get into the ECU with a tech 2 the car model was not properly recognised as my engine config did not come up as a corsa and Nova's didnt have any ecu's. He said that he can get as far as the Immobiliser section but no further because it didnt accept the code. He said that the problem with the tech 1 was that the connection to a tech 1 was different and that my connector type was that of a tech 2. He did say that it may be possible to get the immobiliser reprogrammed by alarm specialists or those kind of specialists but it wasnt something the they were able to do or advise on.

We also thought maybe the keys had gone wrong, but it was highly unlikely that both keys would die or corrupt simultaneously.

Can we get the immobiliser reprogrammed? Or is there a way to by pass it totally?

HELP! The car turns but doesnt start.

Is the engine management light flashing when you turn it over? If so, this is the immobiliser.

Id try and find a C16SE ECU from an old 1.6 8v Astra along with the keys, ignition barrel, and transponder unit attached to the barrel.

Put the chip from the new key, into your key, swap the ecu and transponder from around the dash over and see if your problem is solved.

If it doesn't work, stick the new ecu, key chip and transponder on eBay and you'll get your money back..

C16SE in the Nova would have been GTE and GSI and they did both have ECU's.
