Has this happened to anyone else? When I turn the PS3 on it comes up with a blank black screen. Tried restarting it and sometimes it comes up with the menu background screen with the waves in the background but nothing else. Tried restoring the system which didnt do anything. Any advice??

Define black screen. Similar to when the cables aren't connected properly?

RROD?

Try changing the cable, as Eck said.
Have you used this on a 1080p telly and now using it on a 720p telly?

Try using the Scart/AV cable that came with the system.

If it was coming up the menu but all options were black, it wouldn't be a purely black screen. I was trying to establish if it was the same problem I had before attempting to help... Unlike you.

Jay, try using the AV cables. Then reset it to the default settings. If that works, then I think your HDMI port is fucked. It's actually quite common. You'll then need to open up the PS3 and re solder the connector.
