I bought a 2GB DDR3 SODIMM for my Samsung laptop from Offtek, when I installed it my laptop kept BSOD'ing and crashing programs all over the shop, with or without the original RAM in place next to it.
Got a replacement yesterday, same thing again.
Obviously the original RAM is fine and I have no problems with it etc.
Now I don't think I'm frying these RAM sticks because I remove the existing RAM and put it back on the motherboard without any issues, so I don't know whether I've been extremely unlucky (bought shitloads of RAM from these guys for other systems/laptops without issues in the past) or if my laptop is being a turd?
On the first RAM stick I got I ran the Windows memory diagnostics thing on it and it said it was OK, I can't even get that far on the second one because it just BSODs pretty much as soon as I log in to Windows.
I've updated the BIOS to the latest version from the Samsung website, still the same.
The only thing I remember about the first new RAM stick I received was that it seemed to be a faster speed than what's in the laptop, but the guy at Offtek said to me it shouldn't make any difference.
I now have to spend money posting back this second lot of RAM by recorded delivery, so I'm thinking should I buy some RAM from someone else rather than keep chancing whether I'll get a non-faulty item or not?
The RAM that's in the laptop is a 2GB PC3-8500F (533 MHz) SODIMM, latency of 6-6-6-15 apparently.

Have you tried the orginal RAM in the slot you are using for the new RAM?
Just get some from Crucial?

Tried original RAM in both slots, works fine.
New RAM in either slot with or without original RAM in opposite slot = doesn't work.
Crucial RAM any good?

Always use crucial, one of if not the best manufacturer, just works, stick the system type into the site and they'll send you the correct ram.

I even used an anti-static wrist strap when fitting/removing the RAM, so I don't even think it's ESD damage especially if the original RAM still works perfectly!
Hopefully it's just a case of shit RAM from Offtek.

What's your old RAM size and fsb? Compared to the new RAM?

WOW!
I received my Crucial RAM this morning, I chose the free Royal Mail shipping thinking I'd get it in a week's time or whatever but they sent it out First Class last night, and it arrived this morning!
Also - happy to report that the RAM is working perfectly, cheers John! 
I might see if my other half's laptop uses the same kind of RAM and try the "faulty" one in hers to see if it is indeed faulty or just some weird incompatibility with my laptop!

When i added ram last year I had to up the voltage to the ramslots (on desktop though), dunno if that is anything to do with your old problem

No idea mate, all I did in all cases was to just match the memory that was already there.
There are no settings in the BIOS either to manually adjust values for RAM.
