Hey!

Stupidly spent money trying to fix a shitty MK3 Astra 1.4. Basically car driving fine but overheating.

Headgasket changed, waterpump changed. 2 sensors changed. Thermostat changed. And got it through a MOT.

but its still overheating. arghh should of just scrapped it. Any ideas? or anyone wanna buy it?

Thermostat stuck shut wouldve been my first guess but you say it was changed. Any blockages anywhere like the radiator or an air lock?

Does the fan work?

You should have just put the fan on a switch if it's a shitter rather than spend all that cash on doing the work you've listed.

when its over heating is heater blowing hot? is the radiator hot? are ALL pipes incuding top and bottom rad pipes hot and heater matrix pipes behind engine that go through bulkhead? is half the rad hot or warm and other half cold is your cooling fan working when its over heating if you have got an air lock it will cause this..........take stat out then put housing back togther take radiator top hose off FROM the radiator and back fill the engine with coolant until it pours out of the top of radiator where you took the pipe off reconnect hose you took off take header tank cap off and start the engine and leave it but monitor the temperature most ppl fill an engine from the header tank BADDD idea this traps air inside as it cant get out of anywhere but if you back fill from that pipe the water acts as a ram to push the air out of the top of the radiator 99% of the time no bleeding is required the water pump will do it for u by piushing any remainder air bubbles up through the header a little rev evry now and then assists it in doin just that once your happy its at running temp let the fan kick in and make sure it cools down and fan goes off again while your stat is out boil your kettle pour into mug or cup not a glass sudden change in temp in glass can shatter it hence why u shoudnt defrost your windows with hot water anyway chuck the stat in wether its new or not there are such things as dodgey batches anyway the heat of the water melts the wax inside the stat thus mean the spring on the stat can push it open if the stat doesnt open when hot its FCUKED an thats your over heating problem get a new stat that works!!! use the same test and re fit and follow wat i said again P.S do not keep your engine running for to long with no stat i.e leaving it a few days because its fixed and you cant be assed anymore as it can cause hot spots in your head as the temp isnt regulated and spit or crack your head HOPE THIS HELPS let us know any symptoms it has and good luck

there always possibility the temp guage is screwed aswell dont forget and anotehr thing is it producing excessive steam and does it use water i know you have just done gasket but a gasket change wont fix a crack inside a water jacket inside your head only a pressure test will tel you if your loosing pressure
