Where my power supply goes in is all loose and fucked.
Best place for a new one? Are they all the same or model specific?

Laptop motherboards are model specific and not cheap, worth having a look to see if the power jack can be soldered back on/replaced.

You don't need a new motherboard, just take your laptop to a laptop specialist who will solder you a new DC jack (the part itself costs about £5).

I had a gateway MA7, It also broke the jack.
I paid £50 to a local place to fit a new jack.

It's not my laptop it's my mums, just wanting to make sure it gets fixed properly tbh.
Got everything on an externa hardrive, it still works but you have to prop the plug up where it goes into the motherboard, pain in the arse.

Yea, thats how mine started off, just slowly got worse, till it died completely.
Ive found a charger for just the battery in the us, but its like £50. I cant really justify that, when i can get a dell refurb desktop with screen for 129 on ebay. Which is perfect for my needs (for business use, printing invoices and using ebay etc)
Hope it works, just make sure they say they can fix it, before they start. I had to sign to say if they didnt fix it, i couldnt get a refund.

You can't really tell without opening it up, which will be at least half an hour labour so they'll want to charge by then.
Post it to me

Sometimes even if the DC jack is replaced something else on the board might have fried. A proper laptop repair specialist (not just a "computer shop" on the High St type of place) will be able to check the traces on the motherboard and that in some cases the tiny fuses used on some boards are still OK, amongst other things.
I used to do all that kind of stuff myself but it's very time consuming and not very profitable for me.
If you told them "fix my DC jack" then that's all they would have done - if you told them "my laptop isn't charging" then you are entitled to some recourse, regardless of what they've made you sign.

My old laptop charger jack was all loose (missus tripped over the cable) I hot glue gunned it back in place and it was fine for about a year till i broke the screen.
