Good evening geeks!
I have a laptop that i got off a friend to use for work, but it has Linux on it and i want windows xp on it.
I have the xp disk and have tryed installing it but i get a BSOD everytime it loads the disk, before you get to the bit where you delete partitions, i dont know why im getting the BSOD but its stopping me installing XP.
Also, i cant get into the BIOS because it has Intel Boot Agent on it, and it uses that everytime i start the computer, and i cant for the life of me figure out how to remove it!

So basically, if anybody can help me to remove the Intel Boot Agent, and allow me to be able to install XP would be much appreciated, as im getting very pissed off with it now!

Thanks!

I don't know how old the laptop is, but bear in mind that if the hard drive uses the SATA interface instead of the older IDE, Windows XP does not natively support SATA and you would have to load some SATA drivers for your hard drive (either from a floppy disk or if you are uber geek you can "slipstream" them into a custom Windows XP CD).

The laptop is about 2 years old, and originally had XP on it. But my mates kid messed about with it and put Linux on it and somehow now has Intel boot agent on it aswell which is annoying me!

Oh OK. Why can't you get into the BIOS (to disable it) out of interest?

Because of the intel boot agent. when you turn on the laptop, you get a black screen, and 3 options, boot device, network boot and set-up. The boot agent cuts in before the BIOS, therefore not allowing me to get into it. So i need to find out how to remove the boot agent and i should be ok.

I assume you tried pressing F2 or whatever your BIOS setup key is, repeatedly as soon as you turn it on?

Try resitting the HD (pull it out, resit, reattach cables), remember having a similar issue on a Dell and the ide cable was loose. Sometimes there is also a reset button under the battery that can correct issues, similarly a i've heard naff batteries can cause issues - unplug everything, remove battery and run it on AC and see how far you get.

Yeah might give the HDD one a go... its all because the kid messed about with it, putting linux on for some unknown reason, and messed about with other things
