I just used washing up liquid then re-oiled it, worked great!

I decided not to by the proper cleaning stuff because it was a ripoff!

Hope This Helps

No need for washing up liquid - just run it under the tap.

You shouldn't need to wash it to be honest unless it's done over 30,000 miles or you've just competed in the Dakar Rally..

It would all depend how dusty the area you drive in is. And the oil must need respraying now and then so why not clean it as well.
The genuine cleaning stuff is only £15, small price to pay to stop sh1t getting into your engine imho!

I used a hose pipe and sprayed the water inside the filter thuse forcing the muck out... best not to spray water on the outside because the dirt gets forced further in.

Might take a while to dry it out fully.
