You get different 'digital' aerials but yes, it's exactly the same.

Yeah I know that, but calling them analogue and digital sockets is irrelevant is it not, since you could pick up digital through the so-called 'analogue socket'

There are a few reasons why they could be separated, they could be pointing at different transmitters or it could be a bad reception area and they have got a different type of aerial for each signal.
I wouldn't normally distinguish between the 2 though.
