That's the other end of the ridiculous scale, unless you've got a massive deposit.

i can't afford a kid right now so i'm not having one. i don't expect to get my girlfriend up the spout, then go running to the council demanding a house/free toys etc.

Straight talker talking straight.
In fairness, accidents happen re pregnancy but expecting the council to bail you out is clearly not the right way to go about it, nor is setting your sights on a £850 property on your income.

This thread started because you wanted the council to pay your £850 a month rent.

Fuck me when I was younger I worked split shifts behind the bar in pubs and had to live in a pikey caravan park as that was all I could afford. Soon worked myself up to running pubs and clubs.
I think the incentive was needing more money to have a nice gaff...
No offence mate but get what you can afford and if you can't, get a better job or train for one. That's what I had to do..
Spot on, and that's the reason we have every Tom, dick and Ahmed coming in because of this system.
Housing benefit is for those on £16,000 a year or less.
You've left it late if your misses is over due !
You can private rent if the landlord accepts housing benefit.
Congrats btw !
