I have over 4GB of pictures on my iPhone. Mostly from past holidays and family occasions etc. I want to transfer them to my laptop for safe keeping.

What's the easiest safest way? iCloud?

Ideally I'd like the pictures off my phone to free up storage for more music on my iPhone.

Plug phone into laptop and just copy them off. Images folder shows up like an external drive.

As above.

I'd probably zip with maximum compression and upload to Dropbox or something similar as well.

My camera roll shows 581 photographs but my photo library shows 852 photographs.

When I do the copy to laptop it only shows 581 to be copied off the phone??

Think I've sorted it. Used the manual copy and moved them all onto my HD.
