I was using a video camera the other day that only shoots in .mov format. I copied and pasted the files off the card onto the desktop and for some reason the files have all appeared as .avi files that wont play in any editing software.
Any ideas?

not sure why they'd change format, that sounds odd. what happens if you rename them back to .mov?

yes.
Just make sure you can see the .filename in the name.
If you can go to Tools -> Folder options -> View and untick "hide extensions for known file types"
