Put a new rear beam on a Corsa 1.2 8v. Replaced the rear lines at the same time.

Had some brand new brake pads sitting there and the current ones were wafer thin so i replaced them, usual method, resevoir cap off and pushed pistons back by hand. They went back very very easily.

Adjusted the rear brakes up so they're nice and cosy on the drums, then bled the system with fresh dot4 fluid using pipe into a bottle method with a non return valve on the end. Did this with 3 corners, one corner i had to bleed off of the pipe as the nipple snapped

The brake pedal is shit! loads of travel, and just about bottoms out on the floor although the car does stop and the brakes still lock up.

Have i flipped the seals in the MC pushing the pistons back?

If so, how easy is the MC to replace? Is it just a case of scuttle panel off, undo the MC bolts and brake pipes then it should pull apart from the servo which i can leave in situ?

could be that or there is air in the system somewhere

the fitting that goes to the inlet manifold on my gsi is dodgy and does this sometimes

on mines when the seals turned you would press thep edal and the fluid would go down but return straight back int othe resovoir when the pedal came back up, wouldnt allow any fluid into the system and i had to buy a new one

Check the metal clips on the front caliper, i put one of these back on slightly wrong and got the same symptons. Took me a couple of days to figure it out as well

Do you mean the small, wear indicator clips? if so, these don't have them.

I hope it's that! I took the pipe off, stuck the bleed pipe on the end and bled the system until no air. Then put the pipe into the cylinder, got the mother to work the pedal while i bled it until i was satisfied it was ok.

The car does stop and stops straight, all 4 brakes bite. just shit pedal.

I get fluid through the system no problem.

I didn't even remove these as it was getting dark and i was in a hurry. The pads went in and out no issue without removing the clips so i assume this is not the issue.

Checked both rear cylinders, they're not leaking and not seized.

if you havnt bled the caliper on that last one that had the snapped nipple then there will more than likley be air in there causing a shite pedal

bleed them all properly or theres no point in bleeding them atall tbh mate

Of course i've bled the one with the snapped nipple, i just beld it using the pipe.

I dont think there's any air left in the system, that's why im concerned that my MC is buggered after changing the front pads.

It's common for the seals to flip on old corsas astras etc

if you have bled it from just the pipe then there is a high chance its not bled properly. all you have done is got rid of the air in the pipe, not the caliper.

I've had it pressure bled this morning, it's all sorted now.

I was aware that bleeding from the pipe would probably be the issue but i'd bled it a few times.

Think i'd just got it into my head that i must have knacked the MC when pushing the pistons back for the pads.

I dont think i'll bleed from the pipes again, i'll just buy a new rear cylinder
