iv recently attempted to spray my exterior trim gloss black im having trouble with the plastic pattern what im having to do is build the paint up and wet and dry it to get a smooth finish then recoat

Do you mean the textured finish??

Use high build primer.

can i sand the gloss black back and spray over it with the high build primer

Should be sanded down so the texture is no longer there, then primed and painted.

It'll peel if not

Never had any peeling on the rub strips i done on both my Mk4 Astra's. Good prep, some high build, paint, then lacquer. Held up pretty well even with the jet wash.
