i have replaced the tensioner and belt but cant seem to get tension in the belt any one shine a light on it please

Yes, set belt on it's marks but dont tension it.
Turn the engine by hand until the slack is taken up and the slackest part moves round to the tensioner.
Set tensioner and you're sorted!

Did a 1.2 8v awhile ago, had to work the tensioner back & forth to ease it off, also you have to rotate the water pump to align the marks up on the tensioner.Losen the water pump bolts slightly then rotate it this will put tension on the belt.
Sounds silly but make sure the belt is routed correctly.
