One of my customers has a PC that's got XP Pro on it. It used to be part of a domain but no longer isn't.
Problem is, I don't know what the admin password for the local account is so that I can change it to join a workgroup and be able to do things like change network settings and add printers
What's the best thing to do in this case? Use one of those DOS based boot CD utils that resets the admin password or some shit like that?

Yeah, that's what i'd do. Its an odd thing to say/ask, but have you tried booting into Safemode already? I've been in this exact situation, however, booting into safe mode gave me full local admin rights for some reason. Worth a shot.

Yeah try safe mode first, if not then grab a copy of hiren's boot cd.
