OK I have a few questions:
- What is the recommended minimum room size for a projector?
- Which projectors are good?
- If I just buy a projector, PS3 and AV receiver/speakers, am I good to go? Do I need anything else?
Any other tips welcome.
Thanks!

Depends on projector. Some work better over short distances and some don't. Most will a minimum throw and maximum screen size at a certain distance.
Infocus, optoma are good budget machines.

I've got an optima for sale with a spare/un-used bulb by the way.

Best bet is to browse or ask on AVForums or AVS Forum. But ideally you'd choose the room and then get a PJ with a throw that matches.

It's for my spare room, thinking about turning it into a bit of a cinema room (ish).
It's 11ft x 11ft, is that big enough for a projector?

Bit tight but doable; have a look at some of the Epsons as there are a few models that'll do a 9ft throw onto a 92" screen.
As said though you're better asking on AVForums/AVS; vast wealth of information on both.
Might be useful, a handy PJ calculator - http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator-pro.cfm
