Hello again, seen the pic of the white corsa engine with the dirty big cone
on the turbo pipe........ One question, now that u have no filter or pipe
going to the intake manifold, are u not worried that if anything goes in there when your doing like the tonn, that u might fuck up the engine!!!
Also why cant one with power-sterring not fit???

1. no, cos the top of the inlet pipe is empty anyway, you can look straight through it, im gonna take the top bit off mine anyway, its a waste of time leaving it there.

2. powersteering resovoir is in the way, my bro has pas on his td and i measured up my cone to the gap and there isnt a hope in hell it will fit in. hes just stuck to my old drilled airbox now.

Sorry to bring this topic back to the top but i have a question.

Does the big stupid inlet manifold play any part in silencing the turbo whistle? On my TD you can hardly hear the turbo spooling up,its very quiet.Has anyone upped the boost? I reckon that might give a louder whistle.

1. yes it acts as a resonater, once i moved the filter to the other side there is a lot more induction noise and whistle. turning the boost up also increases the turbo whistle, had mine running 1bar for 18 months and not had a single problem with the engine. changing the filter makes more whistle than upping the boost though.

akeemking got 95.1 bhp with an intercooler and 0.8 bar boost, min is running 1 bar boost so it should be similar if not more, plus when intercooler is on it should be pushing over 100 bhp. bhp isnt the important thing though, the torque is just immensce compared to standard, uphills is a great improvement as is motorway driving, the ingear times are much better

in europe they did an intercooled 1.5 td in the mk2 astra that pushed out 75 bhp (8bhp up on standard) so working on it being the same intercooler as the 1.7 one then that should be the same increase if u use a 1.7 intercooler which i have, although this will also allow you too run higher boost pressures, reason im not going above 1 bar is becasue the safety cut off valve is at 1.1 bar, perfectly safe to run upto 1.3 bar with an intercooler, hmm 110-115 bhp

So why are the turbos so quiet as standard?

I tried putting a pipercross filter on but it just made a huge induction roar, didnt make the turbo whistle any louder. Whats the score?

If i fit a bleed valve in line will that make any difference to the loudness of the turbo? I want as much whistle as possible

Or,is the stock turbo a piece of garbage that just doesnt make much noise no matter what?

wierd, putting my induction kit on increased turbo whistle no end. move it closer to the turbo, my turbo whistle now is really loud. obviously turning boost up helps also. stock turbo is good for 2 bar. head gasket will go b4 then.
