Guys,

I am in the market for a new TV, and pretty much have my heart set on a Samsung LED in 40". Budget around £500-800 depending on the feature set.

My first question is a techy one:

I don't have Freeview where I live so I use Freesat. I would like Freesat built in IF I am able to add extra channels to it. Don't laugh at me here but Horse & Country TV seems to be on a fair bit in this household and I know that that channel is only available on 'Freesat from Sky' rather than 'Freesat'

Is there a way to add the 'code' for that channel to a Samsung Smart TV so I can watch it? Its a free to air one, and I know it can be done on Humax boxes.

Or are there any other TV's that might allow me to do that?
If not I will just stick with my Sky HD box, I just wanted to eliminate one bit of clutter if possible!

My second question is a generic one:

Which TV should I buy?
I play a fair bit of Xbox and watch alot of TV shows/films on my HTPC. Rarely watch 'live' TV.

What suggestions (ideally Samsung, and in the £500-800 price range!)

Samsung 6-series are all going to be fine for the 'average' user.

I'd definitely advise you to go bigger though. 40" really isn't a lot these days.

Can't help with the other questions, have no experience in that regard.

Hi Dough,

I don't know if the answer you are looking for arrive too late.
I was searching for the same and came across this

If you are still contemplating to buy a 40" samasung freesat TV, check the last paragraph in the link given.
ie:

"For the Samsung Smart TV UE40ES6540 using a dish, start by setting the aerial source to satellite. At the end of the list of available transponder frequencies there is an option 'new'. When you select this another box appears which allows you to manually set the EWTN frequency, symbol rate and polarity, as above. After entering these details and running a further scan, additional channels appear including EWTN."

The method for adding EWTN should be the same as for Horse & Country.

Zigzak you twat, its post above not thread

while I think its possible, could you not just continue to use sky freesat? Or use one of Dans codes and save a fortune and get sky?

also agree with Balling and 40" is small so I would ditch the LED and go a bit older and less 'chique' and get something bigger. No point in having quality if you can't see it!
