The house we are buying hasnt got any carpets. Ive got the room sizes but cant find any website that allows you to put the room size in and gives you a price? Can anyone help?

You pay per sq metre, so times the width by the length of the room and you can work out the price that way.

Cant work it out like that for stairs and landings. And yes! Also thought there would be something that can put multiple rooms in and select which carpet and gives an overall price. Will have to just go the shop i think

We got ours through the company selling the house, miller in our case, they obviously have all the plans and had people who'd done other house of the same style.
You can probably find cheaper, but it was most convenient for us

I bought our underlay and gripperrods for the whole house online then got the carpet from a local shop.
Worked out quite well as the shops seem to have massive margins on underlay/gripper.

10mm foam will do the job, 8mm is a bit too stingy.

Sound thanks. Reserved the house today and they said there person is expensive and she will let as many people in to quote as we like which is good. My local shop is closed today which bugs me but will go down monday. Seen lots of different types of underlay so need advice from the shops first

Tradepriced. I got the 11mm cloud 9 underlay. Very good stuff and quick delivery. People still come in and say they love the carpet. Nearly a year on.
Easy to lay too.

yeh i highly reccomend cloud 9 stuff . I had it in my old house and was excellent . Am now going to put it in the place am renovating . The thicker the better in that stuff

Price also depends on the thickness and quality of the carpet. Our cream carpet on the stairs and upstairs is that thick it virtually leaves foot prints when you walk on it.

Go to an independent instead of the like of carpetshite, you will get a much better service and better value for money. Ask friends and family if they know any fitters that work privately etc, I comfortably uncut the shops due to not having the overheads of running a shop.

For the carpet itself, I didn't find much, if any, difference in price between the small shops and the big chains. The markup was mostly on the underlay.

Anyone used the felt back carpet which dont need underlay? The carpet feels nice and thick and comfy but waiting for a price.

Still get an underlay under it mate otherwise it will be flat in no time and feel rock hard under foot.

Ive not gone felt back now. Having normal backed carpet with a 10mm underlay. United carpets has been by far the best price and quality. Whole house fitted and vinyl in kitchen and bathrooms £1600 think this is a good price plus rekon i could get abit more off yet

I thought so. Had a local private fitter quote me £1400 with 10mm underlay and the same carpet. Cant go any further because still waiting to hear something

Ordered the carpet yesterday. Gone to my local shop paid £1434 for the whole house saxony felt backed carpet and 10mm underlay and bars and grippers. Got to pay £270 fitting so was pretty happy with that
