I have a gift voucher that can only be redeemed on Amazon.com (Bitcoins cashed out to Gyft.com) and I quite fancy an iPad mini (Retina) so figured I would put it towards that. If I buy it on Amazon (although it will be from a reseller, not Amazon themselves) will I be liable for any import duties etc when it arrives in the UK? I have assumed that I might be, but I have never bought something like this before.
Would I be better off having it delivered to my sister in USA, get her to use it for a bit then send it to me ‘second hand’?
Postage is $100 with UPS

Will definitely get import charges from UPS (and a surcharge for their privelige of charging you them)
If it was me I'd send it to sister and then ask her to send it USPS
Everything I've had through USPS (although not as high value as an iPad) has arrived without me paying an import charges

Could always go and visit your sister and come back with it.
Obviously no good if you never go to see her.

Have just had a tablet delivered from America via USPS... £36 delivery and £64 import VAT strangely enough, so bang on £100 all in.
