I've been given a sanyo ce37fd90-b 37" LCD tv, but I have a few questions regarding the USB function.
I thought I could plug in a USB stick and play movies from it but having downloaded a few films I'm wondering if I'm either not downloading a correct file format or if the TV needs to have some codecs put on it (somehow?)
Also, if this is possible and I download a "HD" film, will it play HD from the USB?

TV will play a preset of formats. Look in the manual.

Sadly I never got a manual, I found a fresh review site with some formats but I'm not sure if they are correct.
What about the HD question?

Any file format can be HD. You'll need to download files in the correct format or convert the files using something like Handbrake.

You will be very limited to what you can do with the USB Terminal.
If you want to do some cool stuff, look at Linux boxes. I'm mega impressed with my VU+ Solo2.

VU+ is a terrible way to get a media playing box why not just use a Linux PC, or a Windows PC, or any of the multitude of things that exist to do exactly that, instead of a Satellite box.

"You can connect USB devices to your TV by using the USB input of the TV. This feature allows you to display/play JPG and MP3 files stored in a USB stick."
So no video then.
