iv got some of that thick gasket paper stuff, iv used it on various jobs in the past and its worked a treat but my question today is, can i use it for exhaust manifolds to heads or will it just overheat?

look at these pics and look at the standard gaskets and you'll see what im needing a slight change






the indentation on the flange goes to the top of the mani and into the egr system. it is however blocked at the top but if the gas still gets into it wont it slow the flow down a bit?
if you look at original gaskets you'll see what i mean, they need the lump chopped off

open to suggestions here

im guessing the gasket would be a metal pressed gasket from standard
wouldnt use a paper gasket for an exhaust gasket myself though jed

yeah the standard ones are like a double layered tin type one... got some of them here but by the time iv cut the lip off them too they wont seal the port perfect...

can you not just weld over the holes?

i think if you do abit more to fill the gap between the port and the wall it will be fine no gas' will be escaping and it wont be slowing the flow down as that bit of the gasket will just not be used if that makes sense?

yeah know what you mean mate, cheers, that manifolds sorted now (front)

now im a bit baffled (excuse the pun) with what to do with the rear modded one...

iv ported it a bit more than the pic... but tbh im still not happy with them... finding someone who'll make me some custom stainless tubular ones for less than a month wages would be nice



the rear ones got like a tin cast inside them and as you can see iv gone through.
it wont let the gas escape but surely it'll effect the flow more than it already does being tight, chopped and welded and tiny....

is the tin all the way down the exhaust or is it just on the port?
couldnt you just remover the plate
which would just widen the whole thing out even more?

its sorted to the best of my ability for now

the bit on the rear manifold where i went through the inner tin casting has just been filled with 1000 degree exhaust putty, fingers crossed it'll be ok for a few events...

its not ideal and im really not happy using them but if im to see a race or two at some point soon, needs must

old system on, anyone who was at pvs last year will still have this ringing in their ears
