insurance is not a problem, can get insured on a gsi for 800 so it shouldnt be much more than a grand.

well i was gonna sell my car, but considering i cant afford the insurance on anything i want ill just spend the money on mine, now that 1.7 td engine would be maxed out performance wise where a 1.6 16v would only be mildly tuned.
150 bhp and i would be more than happy, obviously go for a full engine rebuild with other bits (gas flowed head, balnaced bottom end etc..., quite handy as this is my uncles business)

pretty sure youll have a nightmare fitting the 16v engine mounts as diesel ones will be in wrong place(offside near slam panel one for a start)......
apart from this you got it sussed. wiring may be a tad tricky cos of td management.

Ive ripped my standard ECU and loom out.
Running on DTA race spec management(approx £1100 fitted).
Only bit it connects to in the car is a switched live, fuel pump relay and revs tacho.
Standard ecu also needs to be connected to vehicle speed sensor, two wires to immobiliser unit under steering wheel and the diagnostics plug and warning light if you have problems.
I was amazed to find no earth in the car, just through the loom to the engine!
