Sometimes if i've turned the wheel with the engine off when i come to try and start it the key just won't turn the ignition!

I usually end up shaking the column quite allot and eventually the key will turn.

Anyone else had this, why does it happen?

tis only the steering lock, most cars have that prob

all you have to do is gently move the steering - it has a little bit of free play, and the key will turn easily.

no need to shake it about.

yep, its normal. just dont move the wheel when your keys arent in the ignition and you wont have any problems
