i was wondering, besides the obvious(2 extra valves per cylinder, and power) what is the difference between the 1.4 8v, and its 16v counterpart...are they the same block with 2 different heads, or two different engines

would not be possible to change the heads, all 16v's were MPI, 8v's were SPI and MPI, so that complicates things.

if you have a 8v 1.4MPI, you can get away with fittin a 1.6 head from a nova GTE from what I'm told
