I prefer AMD, from past experience......but then again, you can hardly compare a Duron 850MHz and an Athlon XP2600+ against a P233MMX, can you!

Have just had it suggested that you look at the Athlon FX series of CPU...

This then
Doesnt have the "issues" that are coupled with AMD. Im sure youve already checked the compatability of components.

If you play games, then maybe you'd be able to squeeze a few more frames per second, but personally I wouldn't bother.

p4's are really stable! say if ya fan packs up on a p4, u wouldnt burn ya chip out ud have enough time to realise its gone. but with AMD u must buy a puka fan+cooler cos if ya fan goes then ya £99+ chip is fcuked!

i thought they fixed that problem with the new chips, and most of the new AMD mobos have Overheat Protection on them which turns the computer off if anything happens...?

yes they do ,,, you will also get alarms when the cpu goes over a certain temp and a automatic shutdown
water cooling is the way forward! no more blowing loud fans lol

I have a silent (ish) setup, with fans. You just have to choose your components carefully, and noise can be all but gone with a fan cooled setup.
