Whats the std 0-60, some people say 9.5 others, including Performance car mag (I got the test) said 8.1

I have seen one with only a k&n pod and a peco system beating a Punto HGT, and they are 130 bhp, heavy (ish) quoted at 8.4 0-60.

All book figures I've seen are 9.5, the nova gte/gsi is 9.0, which has 6-9bhp less, but is about 200kgs or so lighter.

Hey fellas.

A GSi with an X16XE in her belly, does 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in 9.0 seconds flat. Not too sure about the quart times.

Just while I'm here too, I've seen some people getting a bit mixed up with the WEIGHT of the GSi. A standard GSi weighs 950kg, not 1450kg, as I've seen mentioned a few times before. The 1450kg measure, is the GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass), which means it's the maximum that the car can weigh. It's the car, full tank, luggage and all passengers.

It's all in the owners manual. There is no way that a 78kW engine could propell a 1.5 tonne car from stationary to 100km/h in 9.0 seconds! It's just no' rieght guvna! It's lieke cheese that floops arouwnd!

Turbo is 204bhp.

0-60 will be 6-7 seconds. U try getting traction down in a turbo

1.8 16v Corsa C is 8.5 0-60 and 125mph.

Out of a standard GSi's league. Mildy tuned the GSi should take the 0-100.

But then Mantzel now have inlet manifolds for the new 1.4 16v/1.8 16v engines so in effect the SRi should whoop ass.

Yes i was planning on getting the 1.8 16v and a few engine mods to free up some power. Failing that i'm gonna get the new astra 1.8 (it'll be cheaper to insure than the corsa)

Vauxhall Corsa / Astra engines seem to be set up for low end power or end up with a narrow power band, the 1.2 and 1.4 are gutless over 5500 rpm fall on their arse, prob the 1.8 does as well, the gearing they choose doesnt suit the engine either, short close gearing just makes the small power band pass by with no results.

They really should set the engines and gearing up like Nissan or Toyota do, a relatives 1.6 Toyota Corolla has higher gearing and is economical and tractable under 4000 rpm and then gets going with a wide power band up to 7000 rpm for when you need it. The Corsa's I've driven are in pain after 5500 rpm. Its almost like valve bounce on an old Mk1 Escort the way the power drops off.

Err, my mothers 1.6 16v Corrolla doesn't have a good powerband between 4-7000rpm at all. Esp when the limiters at about 6800rpm. Very smooth, but isn't much faster than an 8v SRi.

The engines were designed like that but were no good for fuel/drivability hence why the GSi engine was restricted so much.

Is it a VVTi ?

Anyway, the Corolla 1.6 16v would wank in the face of a Corsa SRi.

They wank on the older GTi mk3 2.0 and 1.820v 125 ps mk 4 Golf.
You not seen the top gear thing they always show where the Corolla wipes out the Golf Gti ?

Toyota always underquote the horsepower as well. They take 10 engines dyno them, take the lowest power figure of the ten and subtract 5% or something, they do this as in the States people try and sue car manufacturers if the quoted HP is higher than actual.

At the end of the day, all you're all doing is quoting figures, which were derived averages or best result over a number of test runs.

Get the car out on the road in the real world and stop worrying about car x at 0-60.

For me, the most useable power would be above 4k at speeds of 50mph-90mph so 0-60 really isn't worth thinking about.
I can't get traction as it is with a 1.6 Sport let alone with twelve C20LETs mounted transversely in my glove box all running phase 7 and blah blah blah.

Even "Vs" days are flawed - typically 1/4 mile runs where 0-60 times are tested.
Straight roads and if there's a slight hint of wind, those losing claim they had head wind or the others had tail wind...

Track days: "Oh, I was on road tyres... oh I'm still setting up the camber... I'm bedding my brakes in..."

Quit fucking analysing and drive the cunting car.
